Because the mounted officers are not funded by the police service, the FNMP is dependant upon assistance from the community. This is not limited to financial assistance. They could also use a hand at events!

The FNMP will be starting a volunteer program where members of the community can get involved with mounted operations. Preparing for an event is quite a job, and the mounted officers will typically spend two hours before and one hour after an event doing prepatory work. Horses have to be washed and groomed, equipment loaded and unloaded, and droppings must be cleaned up.

The cleaning up of horse droppings during parades is particularily important as the mounted officers are at the front of a parade and the way must be clean for the rest of the parade following behind! Recently, the FNMP provided the mounted officers with a wagon, fully-dressed in police markings, for parade cleanup.

To this end, the FNMP is looking for a crew of assistances who may be called upon during an event to attend and assist with the mounted operation.

Shortly, we'll post a list of what is involved, and how interested members of the community can apply. Volunteers will be officially recognized on this website.
